Indiana programs

Indiana runs one of the country's largest voucher programs. As of the 2026-2027 school year the program is statewide and residency-based: the family selects the public school corporation where they live, and the voucher amount is the official IDOE per-corporation amount (Period 1 for a full school year, Period 2 for a half year). A separate ESA (Indiana ESA) is available for students with disabilities. This tool provides an estimate — final eligibility and award amounts are determined through the official Indiana Choice Scholarship application and approval process.

Who qualifies

Eligibility at a glance

Starting with 2026-2027, Indiana's Choice Scholarship is universal: any Indiana K–12 student who is at least 5 and younger than 22 by October 1 qualifies. The prior income cap was removed on June 29, 2026. Eligibility is not based on whether the student's assigned public school is 'failing.' Preschool, Pre-K, and daycare are not eligible.

Award amount

How much aid families see

The Choice Scholarship pays the official Indiana Department of Education amount set for the student's home public school corporation, capped at the private school's tuition. The exact dollar amount depends on which public school corporation the family lives in — not on the private school they choose.

Indiana FAQ

Common Indiana questions

Who qualifies for the Indiana Choice Scholarship for 2026-2027?+

Any Indiana K–12 student who has legal settlement in Indiana and is at least 5 and younger than 22 by October 1 of the school year qualifies. There is no income cap and no requirement that the student's assigned public school be 'failing.' Preschool, Pre-K, and daycare are not eligible.

How is the voucher amount calculated?+

The award equals the official Indiana Department of Education per-corporation amount for the family's home public school corporation, capped at the private school's tuition and eligible fees. Amounts vary by corporation and are set annually by IDOE.

Does my home public school need to be a 'failing' school?+

No. Your home public school corporation determines the dollar amount of the scholarship. It does not need to be a failing school, and it does not determine whether you are eligible.

Do I have to attend the public school in my corporation to qualify?+

No. The corporation of residence determines the dollar amount of the voucher, but the student attends a state-approved private (Choice) school.

$39 a month. Fewer tuition calls. More ready families.
